Village of Santiago “Santa Claus” Aaron Howard was featured in a Washington D.C. TV news story about a military mother deployed in Afghanistan who surprised her family for Christmas.
The event took place at the Gaylord National Hotel in Washington where Howard has been playing Santa over the holidays.
Howard has played Santa in many locations, including at Epcot.
When Sgt. First Class Fae Prince’s family came to Santa’s studio at the Gaylord to tape a holiday message for Mom, Santa instructed them to open a huge gift box where they found Mom hiding inside.

“Aaron admitted he even cried a little,” said his sister-in-law Nancy Schultz of The Villages.
Howard is a member of The Villages Leathernecks Dragon Boat team. His wife, Lea, happened to be in Washington visiting her husband when the surprise event took place.
The Howards’ son, Matthew, is serving with the U.S. Air Force in Okinawa, Japan, with his family. They will not be home for Christmas.
